What we know of Socrates is fascinating. Why did the life of Socrates occur? Most credit him with "founding" something that led to Western civilization, though he apparently never started a school or any other organization, and never wrote anything. Socrates was so different than Plato and Aristotle, though we see him most clearly through Plato. I see Socrates as part of God's great plan leading to the birth of Jesus. In spite of all the evidence surrounding the life of Christ, one must take a step of faith to believe what Jesus said about himself.
Why bother? Well, we all die - usually a lot sooner than we would like. None of us know for certain if there is anything more to life than the here and now. However, most of us feel eternity in our "souls," and in this, we are like almost every human being who has ever lived. But there's that "unknown, " it's like a glass through which we see darkly. Yet, we also feel in our "souls" that we should be able to know what lies ahead. Our sense of justice demands it. Unfortunately, we are busy, always busy -- surely the man upstairs will understand. But why take the chance - why not make a significant, honest, effort to seek what the man upstairs may be have for us to prepare for our life to end? Why not ask him for his help: pray, then look into the sources that claim to help in these manners - the religions, the philosophies, etc.

Honoring King Jesus
Jesus made some amazing statements didn't he. Though many in the United States are forgetting Jesus, around the world the influence of Jesus seems to constantly grow, just as Jesus predicted. The only reason for the importance of the Bible is Jesus. The various influences around us tend to cloud our vision, but when one realizes the elegance of the universe, it would only seem natural that the universe has some creative element behind it that would want to communicate with his creation, especially mankind. Once you begin to seek such communication you look at the Bible in a different light. Even if one could understand all the religions, philosophies, and lifestyles of the world, the Bible stands out. If you read the Bible to see if the creator is using it to communicate with mankind, you would read it differently than if you were reading it for any other reason. To me, thinking of that moment after I die, and its possibilites, and that it could happen at any time, makes me want to seriously know if there is a creator attempting to communicate with me.
